| Re: July 19th- Bush's 50 State Approval 13 Nebraska Bush 45% 53% -8% NE This doesn't suprise me really. People in this state are so blind it is ridiculous. They justify everything with "WUHL KERRY WOULDA DONE NO BETTER!" I just want to slap them and remind them that a disapproval for bush is not equal to supporting democrats. | ||||

A month ago, USA Today featured the Democratic resurgance in Nebraska. It was standing room only the other night at the Blue Bottle Coffeehouse. The Dodge County Democrats were meeting for their convention -- and there were about 60 of them, up from barely a dozen in 2004. That was enough for outgoing chairman Jim Dake to declare the county's Democratic Party officially revitalized. "The proof is all around you," he said. "We've filled the room." Early organizing, early advertising and a full slate of candidates for Congress are among the signs of hope for Democrats in this conservative farm state with a streak of prairie populism [...] Two years ago, 11 Democrats were on the November ballot for the state Legislature; this fall there will be 15. Four years ago, Democrats had a candidate in one of three races for Congress. This year they have candidates for all three seats: cattle rancher Scott Kleeb, attorney Jim Esch and former lieutenant governor Maxine Moul. All three are "a cut or two above" the usual in quality, says state politics expert Robert Sittig, a retired University of Nebraska professor. Some observers say the Democrats are more visible and quicker off the mark than in past years. For more than a month the party has been running three statewide TV ads touting Nelson's record. Sara Crook, a political scientist at Peru State College, south of Omaha, said it's "extremely unusual" to see ads so early. Here in Fremont, the Democrats opened a campaign office to help candidates up and down the ticket. "Usually at this stage we're just trying to get a couple of people to parades," activist and attorney Richard Register says. He also says the party usually has to "twist arms" to find delegates to the state convention. At this meeting, volunteers had to be turned away. Today, we get news from the Kleeb campaign: The Omaha World Herald is now reporting that Democrat Scott Kleeb, a rancher with a PhD from Yale on International Relations, has taken the lead in the COH race against his Republican opponent, State Sen. Adrian Smith in the open seat contest in NE-03. Taken the lead by a lot, actually. According to the article, Smith currently has a warchest of $105,000, while Kleeb has nearly three time as much in the bank: $277,000. And this is in the sixth most Republican district in the entire country. Cheney raised $85K in a single fundraiser for Smith last month, without which Smith would be teetering on the edge of financial collapse. (That fundraiser, in which local authorities got stuck with the security bill, didn't go over very well with the locals.) This is the sixth most Republican district in the country. And in NE-01, Maxine Moul's challenge to Rep. Fortenberry is gaining steam with a record-breaking (for a Democrat) $538K raised thus far this cycle (including $100K in a single week). Fortenberry has about $496 CoH, while Moul is competitive at $369K. This is what the DNC 50-state-strategy is all about. Dean's DNC is spending $120K/year for three organizers in the state, money that Schumer and Rahm would prefer be spent on bullshit television ads by ineffective beltway consultant firms. That $120K and the renewed energy by the NE Democratic Party has forced the GOP to pay attention to an area of the country and district that Republicans had previously taken for granted. If Cheney does a fundraiser for Smith, it's a fundraiser he can't do for another Republican candidate. It's money from GOP donors that can't go to other races. Other endangered Republicans get less attention, and endangered Democrats get a pass. And given the state of the money race in this district, Republicans may be forced to expend even more resources ensuring their hold on a seat that really, by all rights, shouldn't even remotely be on anyone's radar. http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/7/16/04942/8207 | ||||

| Re: July 19th- Bush's 50 State Approval They definitely have more momentum than they used to. But this state hasn't gone blue for president since LBJ. We have had democrat governors, senators, and congressmen. The president one is the one I am most concerned with. | ||||

| Re: July 19th- Bush's 50 State Approval Ohio Bush 33% Ohio is now the lowest approval rating of any state that voted for Bush, and it was by the slimmest of margins. This could definitely be the difference in 08 if a Dem can take advantage of it. Sounds about right with the state being pretty 50/50 that approval is 33%... that would be pretty much zero democrats and 60% of Republicans. Seems to make sense. | ||||

| California: Dissapprove 67% Sounds about right. Since we never wanted him in the first place. But the only counties keeping it that "high" are the redneck areas in the inland Empire and the Richie Riches in the OC (Where I am from). It's amazing how conservative some of the people are in these two counties, if you go inland you'll swear you are in a different state...it's nuts. | ||||

| NC: 48% Approval, 49% disapproval Well, it's an improvement over being over 50. I'm kind of embarassed that we're in the top 5, but it's something I've come to live with being in such a religious conservative state.. I don't think there's much of anything that Democrats can do to win the support of people who base their political philosophy around religion tbh. They see the Republican party as an extension of Jesus' teachings somehow. | ||||

| 28%. No big surprise. I can say honestly that I couldn't care less how he polls anywhere. We're subject to his decisions whether or not the majority of people polled don't like him. | ||||
