Immigration raids may affect meat prices - Yahoo! News

WICHITA, Kan. - When hordes of police and immigration officials stormed meatpacking plants in six states this week, the illegal workers arrested may not have been the only victims.
Consumers and the industry itself may be feeling the repercussions in a shortage of meatpackers, higher wage costs and, ultimately, higher prices for the beef that lands on America's tables at home and in restaurants.

So they should be rewarded for breaking the law?

I don't think they're good for the economy because they force Americans to pay fifteen to twenty billion dollars in taxes a year alone, not to mention the costs of things like issuing driver's licenses etc....

So no, they aren't good for the economy.

If a company can't make it without breaking the law, such as hiring illegals, they shouldn't exist.

I agree. The companies should be severely fined for hiring illegals. They even made an estimate that 40% of the workers would be captured from the raid. There is no way a companies workforce should have that many illegals.

the meat price will adjust back accordingly. Those who hired illegals should be fined or out of business. Selling coke and weed is good for my savings accound but it is still illegal.

Good for the economy?

The higher wage costs insinuates they're not longer paying illegals. That's less Americans unemployed and driven out of the labor market by illegally deflated salaries by people willing to live 15 people to a room as opposed to a family man trying to feed his family. Less Americans on welfare, medicare, etc and hopefully if they were deported, less illegals raping our social services and keeping Americans unemployed.

I'd gladly pay an extra 3% for my beef, veggies, fruit, etc. Food is already extremely cheap in this country as it is compared to other nations.

Here is a local story to tell you. The City of Redondo Beach (very small beach town south of Los Angeles) tried to pass an ordinance that would get these roving mobs of illegals who loiter on street corners to be picked up for work off the steets. This also involved complaints of public urination and littering. The ACLU type illegal-immigration Nazi's came to town and got some liberal judge to block this effort as a civil rights violation. So there is now legal precedent that will effect towns all over the country if they try to do anything to obstruct illegal workers gathering on city property.

This is true.

At least the city of Orange is cracking down on them, all you have to do is call and complain. And I know people who just call daily because we all know they are out there on the corners.

Yes we do. We need to do that right after we arrest and deport every illegal in our country. I laugh every time I get the reply how that is impossible. That reply is just a cop out.
For me it is simple, either we are a sovereign nation with borders and REAL laws or we are not!
To simply deny corrective action because the task is too great is both wrong and silly.
All those millions of illegal invaders are stealing the birthrights of our childrens and grandchildrens. Also they put a financial and cultural burden on our nation that could soon destroy it.

TMZ is right, there is a birthright to being an American. To be born here means that we all have an opportunity to that marketed American Dream, and people who aren't born here even get the opportunity to come here and make it happen for them, all we ask is that they follow our laws, and the first thing they do is break a law coming into our country without permission? WTF?
