The Effects of Hillarycare

Hot Air » Blog Archive » The Hillarycare Nightmare (Fri)

This is an excellent trailer for a documentary that shows the horrors of Canada's health care system and the reality of government run health care systems.

The guy goes to his doctor with headaches and seizures and is told likely prognosis is a brain tumor. He needed an MRI. But the waiting time was over 4 months! Afraid he could be dead before that time he went to NY and got the MRI. He came back with his MRI and went to his doctor showing he had a brain tumor. His doctor set him up with a surgery 5 months later! Once again afraid he would be dead by the time his government run health care would provide him with his wonderfully "free" health care he went back to NY and got the surgery done within a week. He is now alive (w/ great thanks to America's health care system) and there is a documentary about his troubles with the Canadian health care system.

So what's the waiting time in the USA for one of those without a healthcare insurance?

Pretty much the same except when it come to the homeless and very poor. They will treat symptoms and dump them back on the street in a lot of cases.

Lets ask some of these people if they wouold rather be treated at all or treated after a long wait.

I love these chicken littles crying about the sky falling with a social medical net. You would not have to use these doctors. You would not be waiting 5 months for an MRI. You can go out and buy medical insurance and get treated the same way you do now.

Christ, has anyone here ever gone to a free clinic? You are there all day and get shitty service, but it's free and they ask no questions. My wife pays a ton every month for her insurance and she's in and out when she goes in for the same services she would be getting at the clinic.

In the ER? About the same time for someone with insurance.

But they can't choose to go to a private hospital like people with insurance can.

hospital usually eats it, which means everyone else that pays their bills end ups subsizing the poor. omg we already have socialized health care for the really poor and great health care for everyone else.

Why do you want to change it ?

Yeah, hospitals eat most of it. Millions every year.

Correct, which makes insurance premiums skyrocket as well as the cost of care.

Stupid question, but how is a brain tumor an ER case? Sure, it's a quite serious condition but Emergency Room? Would a person without a healthcare insurance even be able to get the scan? That's quite pricey to get done in Sweden at least.

My issue with privatized healthcare is that the insurance company profits while premiums keep going up for the consumer. Getting them to pay out is like pulling teeth, and it creates a ton of bureaucracy for both the patient and the caregiver's office. Also, I fail to see why people's health should come second to insurance company profits. I don't care if the money pools are run by government or some other private system as long as they are nonprofit.

Yes. That movie 'John Q' isn't what happens.

What is then the purpose of having an insurance if you get the treatment anyway?

Some of us like to do the right thing and pay for the things we receive from others.

Exactly. Hospitals are required to treat you regardless of Identification and payment. It's how illegals drive our hospitals out of business.

So why then do an estimated 18000 uninsured die each year because of lack of a healthcare insurance then? And why are more uninsured people hospitalized for an "avoidable condition" because they did not receive appropriate treatment in time?

If that stat has any basis in fact it is because they refuse to go to the doctor.

because they refuse to go to the doctor earlier.

The US already has socialized medicine for the really poor. There are free clinics plus the major hospitials take the hit to take care of the poor.

or because they were brushed off for having no coverage until it became critical and they end up in the ER.
