What is it you want from life?

What is it you want your life to mean? What's "success" for you?

I've been thinking a lot lately about what type of life I want for myself and what I want my life to mean, whether or not the time I spend working at some job is actually going to mean anything or not.

I'm sure everyone thinks about this stuff at some point in their life, so if you've already spent time thinking about it and made a decision based on whatever it is you came up with, feel free to share

I think the only reason we are here is to carry on the human race. So what gives meaning to me is to raise the best kids that I can. Kids that can contribute to the utmost of their abilities to our human race, Kids that can be a cog in the giant civilization machine. Kids that can help America lead the way to the future. We are still trying to find our way as a country and maybe they will be able to help, and we need a lot of help.

Not much. I want enough money to do what I want but not really to be super rich. I want a job that I can enjoy. To be respected. A girlfriend.

I'm paraphrasing, but I heard that Bob Dylan once said that a man is a success if he is able to get up in the morning and does what he wants to do.

I think that I agree with that. I'd like to be able to make a living doing what I want to do. That would be awesome.

I'd personally like to raise a family and spend as much time with them as possible, all the while providing them with everything they could need and some things they want.

If I have to work a regular 9-5..

I am thinking married with a couple kids, nice (but reasonable) custom built house, 2 cars, and a boat. Maybe 100k a year salary so i can afford to take them on a vacation here and there and pay for their when they get old enough.

Or as an alternative to working the 9-5..

Win the lottery. Keep maybe 2 million of it to support myself and give the rest away to various charties and maybe start my own depending on how much i won. If it was say, 50 million, i would probably use dividens on 10-30 million of it to maintain a medical clinic for those who can't afford basic health needs such as immunizations, physicals, etc. I would probably also do some neighborhood reconstruction efforts...kind of like an extreme home make over without the extreme. Instead of putting all the money in to one house in a "pimp my house" fashion like they do, i would do it a couple blocks at a time. I would evaluate each house, and depending on the needs...Update their roof, siding, insulation, windows, paint the exterior or install vinyl siding, update their appliances and heating, new fence and door locks, most of the things in effort so that the house is more efficient so they get cheaper utility bills, and they are less maintenence. I would also donate 1 thing which would make their life easier to get to work. Maybe its pay for the bus to get their kids to school for 1 school year, so they can get to work... but it would be something that the couldn't just turn around and sell to buy smack.

Just some random ideas i had if i was independently wealthy.

I'd like to be able to bunker down with my fiancee and forget the rest of the world and its trouble even exist. We really enjoy each others company and work/college just get in the way.

I am married with kids and already have my dream house. We are all healthy now and I hope for health in the future. We have a great income and I hope that continues and employment is never an issue as it is for some. My main goal in life is to be known by those most close to me as someone whom they could trust unconditionally, always have open arms and mind to anyone, always be loving even in the most stressful times. A good goal is not too take on or put out the anger and hate that is rampant in todays world. Oh yeah and be the best dad to my kids as I can be since my father was never around for me.

I want nothing from life that I wouldn't just take for myself.

I expect nothing from being alive, and cherish every bewilderment I get.

To be a writer and illustrator, successful enough to live a comfortable life. i dont expect to be rich. i'd probably also like to goof around and be in a band for a while. I wanna have two kids. when i die i want to be cremated, and my ashes thrown into the face of whoever pissed me off most in my life.

I want the same thing from life as most people, I think: to be full. It seems that most people go from this to that to try to fill up empty spots or holes. The problem is, the more you stuff into the holes, the bigger the holes seem to get. I have no particular desires, just a general desire to be satisfied with the things I come across.

Besides all that mumbo-jumbo, I would like my daughter to grow up happy, with a respect and compassion for others.

He consulted the greatest teachers, scientists, philosophers and theologians, but he could find none to give any answer to the simple question of existence. All that anyone could tell him was that man and the universe exists, but that there was no explanation for it. Then, in the end, he found faith, and in faith the hope that life was not meaningless. See Leo Tolstoy, A Confession and Other Religious Writings (1879-82). In 1901, Tolstoy was excommunicated from the church by the Russian Synod and placed on a watch list of subversives by the Czar’s government.
If he found faith, why was he excommunicated?

*edit* nevermind, I read up on it.

I want to enjoy life as much as possible, taking in everything I can. spending time with my own family and close friends, doing day to day things I enjoy, getting married eventually and have children, trying to make the world better in any small ways I can, and traveling a lot, seeing the world and experiencing new cultures. that would make me happy.

oh and the sox winning another world series.
