| Tech help needed v.Motherboard isn't working Here is the new stuff Intel BOXDP965LTCK Socket T (LGA 775) Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard Newegg.com - Intel BOXDP965LTCK ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Conroe 2.13GHz 2M sharing L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13GHz LGA 775 Processor - Retail XFX PVT71GUQL3 GeForce 7900GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card Newegg.com - XFX GeForce 7900GT PVT71GUQL3 Video Card - Retail Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM Old stuff is: Sound Blaster - Audigy 2 DVD-Writer (Forget brand, maybe Lite-On) 2 Sticks of 512mb (1 gig) DDR2 RAM X-Dreamer Case (300wpower supply, was supposed to be 400!) Newegg.com - APEVIA (ASPIRE) X-Dreamer ATXB3KL-AL/420 Silver Computer Case - Retail Problem: Put in new motherboard into case, then CPU, then old memory, HD, VC, etc 300w case, less than 1 y/o...motherboard brand new Turned off power strip, plugged in power to case, flipped on power strip, and case light went green (even though it almost always stays blank until i hit the power button) I hit the power button...nothing happens Took out the VC because apparently 300w isn't enough...MB still has same problem, even stripped with just HD, RAM, and CPU in MB...won't run Took it to some quasi-tech guys at work, no help My only option it seems is to to give it some shop and get it back in like a week or something ridiculous It's all new parts from newegg I figure A) The motherboard came DOA B) The case somehow doesn't like the motherboard (i dunno) C) I fried the motherboard by simply plugging it in...even though I acted exactly like I did the other 4x ive put together a computer So, you see the parts and my problem... Is it most likely A or C? Can I just buy a new MB...put that in and wala Is it most likely B? I just need a new case and wala B and C? I need to get a new Mobo and new case? I desperately need your help, thank you for your time...which is of the essence because computer shops are starting to close for xmass Additional notes: It appears I'll need a new power supply, does anyone know what works best that I could get a local small city store...for a 7900gt (i have the model listed and linked) Checked and rechecked all connections, had them overviewed...nothing wrong fan doesn't turn on...no beeps....disconnected PS to video card...PS only going to MB with CPU and RAM, and HD...just green light on motherboard...only happened when i was plugged in | ||||

| I'm guessing it's either a) dead motherboard b) power supply is wack Test your power supply with the old parts.. if it works with those, you've eliminated the power supply as the culprit Test your motherboard with different components.. might be one component is drawing too much power, or is fried, etc.. I've had power supplies go bad on me even though they'll still give the green light, not enough juice to power the whole thing.. | ||||

| Make sure your power supply is selected to the correct power output. Make sure your motherboard isn't touching metal. Take out each memory chip and try each one individually. Go to the motherboard manufacturer's website and make sure your brand of memory is compatible... try old parts. You don't need them in the cast to try them, but make sure everything is grounded and not touching metal. If it works on your old parts, the motherboard is likely DOA or make sure you don't need your motherboard flashed for whatever reason. Some of the new core 2 processors take some tinkering to work on older version motherboards. | ||||

| 1. supply. 300w is rather low for modern cpus, especially the core2..and the supplies that ship with $50 cases are total crap. I don't know which green LED you're talking about, but it could be that the supply does not even provide enough standby current to bring the system into the 'on' state when you push the button.. I know you said you pulled the video card, but most boards won't complete POST without one.. if you've got an old pci video board laying around (like an old S3 Virge or ATI mach II), try that. If it works, then try buying a beefier supply, or better yet, return that case and buy one supplyless and then get a power supply separately. 2. make sure your power button/led are wired to the correct pinouts.. 3. try removing the board from the case, placing it on a nonconductive surface such as a wood workbench and plugging everything in..if it works, then you've got a trace touching the case somewhere, or the case was causing one of your addon cards to seat improperly.. My money's on the supply. Sometimes, though, intel boards are known to have picky BIOSes that don't like devices which use certain IO ranges (you'll see this appear with 'static resource conflict' messages during POST). Also, they can be picky about memory stick configurations (chip density/default timings). Just something to keep in mind. Generally, I stay away from intel branded boards for this reason and that their CMOS configuration utilities are purposely limited by intel (yes, even their 'extreme' overclocker friendly boards). If you want to use intel branded boards, then stick with their recommended brands/models of dimms. Just to be clear, I'm referring to intel BRANDED boards, not all boards that use intel chipsets. | ||||
