| | The South Factor The race to capture the powerful seat of the mayor of Dallas began to gain momentum from the beginning of the year. Judging from the early action of the Dallas mayor campaign, the road to the Dallas mayor’s office is going to be a wind though southern Dallas. Most of the major candidates in the May 2007 mayoral election have a southern strategy. For those who do not yet realize they have to draw some support in those neighborhoods risk being embarrassed when the votes are counted. But this fact must not convey a wrong impression that the north is not important. It is important too. But the potential for the south to vote in huge blocs could mean the difference between a candidate making the runoff or simply running in place. So whoever is going to be the mayor may have to come through southern Dallas. Since most of the candidates for mayor are from North Dallas, it means that the votes could be split for the general election. In addition, for this election, there are five council seats being contested in the south along with the race for mayor. This could lead to heavier voter interest.
