I think most people believe he misspoke, it was the fact that he said something negative that offended our servicemen and he once again refused to do the honorable thing.

Funny how our servicemen and women get so offended by a botched joke, yet they don't mind being shot at for no good reason.

So you're assuming they all were offended and none of them mind?

Because all of them weren't offended and a number of them do mind.

That's subjective. The fact that they keep re-enlisting in abundance to keep getting "shot at" shows that perhaps they do see a good reason beyond your comprehension. Most people don't think John Kerry meant to insult the troops. They think it was either a slip of the tongue or a botched joke. It was the way he handled it that caused the long term problems.

He apologized, granted it came late, but he did apologize. It was a tricky situation with the election so close, what he did could have had a major impact on the outcome of the election, so I don't blame him for being cautious.

If someone is still holding a grudge over his comment they need to get a life. He simply misspoke. What he was supposed to say was handed out in advance in transcript form, he just screwed up.

He wasn't cautious, he went on every media outlet he could find and released video of himself angrily saying he would never apologize. That's not cautious, that's foolish. Cautious would be ducking low and waiting to see what happens and how to handle it. He went out and made strong statements in person to the filmed media outlets. Yet he "apologized", if you can even call it that, in a pathetically worded letter and ducked off the face of the earth.

If he dropped off the face of the earth and never apologized, yes I would have. If he took a day to gather himself and see how to handle it, I wouldn't have. I didn't expect such a quick response from him when he started getting on TV pissed off at the world claiming he would never apologize. I was actually quite shocked he was on live TV so soon after the incident broke. I was even more shocked when I heard his message... And that's why the servicemen are pissed off.

Quite a few Democrats have bashed the military. Nobody has gotten more slack for it than Kerry because of how he handled it.

so let me get this straight...and, no, I'm not calling any soldier stupid, I'm just pointing out some irony:

Kerry messes up a joke
anyone with half a brain knows it was a messed up joke
those that were supposingly branded as "stupid" still don't realize it was a messed up joke

am I the only one who sees this?

It wasn't a joke. John Kerry has a long time of hating the military and negatively criticising it.

The far left would know more about Iraq than they do?

And let us please not get anywhere near the stupid soldier stuff again? Might be why Kerry sits alone!

I saw the original press conference. It was all seething anger period. The apology came after much party arm twisting.

And I don't know why anybody buys this botched joke crap? I know the audiance of that moment. It was a far left California University audiance. To say many of them loathe the military, as Clinton wrote at that age, would be a mild point. And they all applauded and cheered the botched joke. Listen to the tape! Why didn't a botched joke go flat!

Uh, because the correct version of the joke he meant to say was released ahead of his speech in the transcript to the press, etc... he simply bungled it. Badly.

dick armey called barney frank "barney fag" even though he knew the guy's name... that's what happens when real thoughts make it out of mouths.
