That is up to his commanders. Until someone can prove that he put in for the medal, and got it approved on his own. It is a legitimate medal.

I know people who were actually shot by the enemy in Vietnam and are now disabled who didn't receive a purple heart... This guy get a bandaid over a superficial wound and he can't even remember how he got the damn medal...

As far as I know, they didn't hand out purple hearts for unmemorable reasons in Vietnam. And I'm pretty sure the bandaid hearts would be considered extremely rare, even for an aspiring politician with a video camera.
