Two Families In Texas On New Year's Eve

One family lovingly welcomes their son into their home.

The other family's loved one will never enter their home again.

One family gathers around the table for dinner.

The other family now has an empty seat at theirs.

One family spends their new year's eve celebrating with their loved one, like they always do.

The other family spends their new years eve commemorating their loved one, and will always do.

One family has a loved one most people know by name.

The other family has a loved one most people will probably ever know as a number.

Sorry, but the 3,000th death is no more or less important than 2,999th.

Anyone whose feelings changed because the number went from 2,999 to 3,000 deserves a kick in the balls.

Ah. Well that sucks, but is the nature of conflict. It has a profound impact upon individuals, but once take out of that context is used to make a point - though one that may or may not be valid.

The use of the death count of American soldiers in Iraq by the opponents of the war in Iraq is sickening. It is also moronic and stupid.
Those American soldiers that gave up there lives serving our nation deserve better than that.
What is the point of heralding this death count ?
Why does it matter in regards as to the validity of the war or not?
Those that attempt to use it make a point of - Wow, what a large number!
On D-day invasion American deaths are estimated to be 2,500 to 5,000.
That is for -ONE DAY!!
Battle of the Bulge American deaths estimated at 20,000 for the 30 day length.
WOW, maybe we should have just gave up back then, ran away as many appeasing, cowardly Americans whimper and cry to do now!.
Of course if we had many of us would have never been born and the others would be speaking german now.
I think all people using the American death toll as reason for our military to cut and run definately deserve at least a good, swift kick in the ass!
