Kuwait? You have to be kidding me, how would YOU have taken Kuwait? You really think the US would have stopped Iran from invading Iraq under Saddam if he came across as toothless?

| They had Shia...thats right SHIA Iraqis in Iraq saying how Saddam came out as the martyr, and the executioners the tyrants Like I said, Saddam got the last laugh...he was about 70 years old, and at that age, an Arab man, even wealthy, do not have the highest mortality rates...never in his wildest dreams did he think he'd die as a martyr, but in his last moments when he saw the Iranian puppets acting like scumbags, he knew the word would get out, smirked, and then began to pray as he accepted his death As many american conservatives and average iraqis have noted, he looked dignified as he died | ||||

| I have to agree in part with what Thorgrim is saying about him going out as a martyr, I'm sure we'll unfortunately see many attacks in his name in the coming months (and years) in Iraq, and maybe other places around the world as well if the Ba'ath Party keeps their word. The video has done a lot of damage to the diplomacy effort between the various factions in Iraq, I think. The evidence that's out right now is showing a lot of anger and frustration with how it went down and it's not going to help bring Sunni's to the table. If we want our soldiers to die less frequently, if we want a stable Iraq, if we want to see progress, that doesn't bode well. He did appear to be the dignified one, while the Shia in control of the execution (and Iraq) appeared to be of the same cloth as the thugs who put on masks and behead people. He deserved what he got, but this whole process has done more harm than it will ever do good.. and it's just another failure in a long, long list of failures and miscalculations made by this Administration. In custody he was marginalized, out of power, out of the spotlight. Now, people will fight in his name. It's sad.. and I feel sorry for the families of our soldiers who will die as a result, and I feel sorry for the innocent Iraqi's who'll die in retaliatory attacks. | ||||

| I wonder how long it will be before Moqtada al-Sadr is President of the Islamic Republic of Iraq? Six weeks after we leave Iraq (which is to say, 12 weeks after Bush leaves office)? | ||||

If he had the skill, he could seize the green zone tommorow after al-Sistana basically blessed bringing in a new government, which didn't happen...but the current government is so weak and Sadr's forces are so large and entrenched in all the key places, the battle would be over before it started, for all we know Sadr's men are in key places just waiting for an order...but I doubt he has that kind of cunning If the Badr Corp militia and Iraqi army teamed up against Sadr, he'd lose, but that would be very hard indeed...Kurds didn't sign up to kill Shia in Basra

| In short it was not an action of the government and is being investigated. An AP article in todays paper states that a Prosecutor who was at the hanging stated that the taunts came from Guards outside the execution chamber, not from the masked guards who hanged him.

If you want to be part of this government mend your ways and come to the table. As for the violence and it's cause you could not be more wrong and that is the real sad part of it. While the people who commit these acts may welcome more excuses to justify their actions, they don't need a new purpose. They have made that clear. And what they both fear and respect is strength. Playing nice by the UN and putting Saddam in exile in some Island Prison for the rest of his days would be perceived as weakness on the part of the new government and the Western World. Instead of outrage you would have a victory celebration that would only encourage more violence as rewarded. I also must question your use of the terms "coming months, and years." Is that in anyway the result of a lack of violent escalation in the last several days? It seems a rather automatic way to blame violence that occurs no matter when in the future on this action and the Bush Administration not on terrorism? Because that is what it looks like from here.

| Maybe the ba'ath party didn't really care about Saddam anymore, they just want to make a statement to assert they are still a force...he was getting old, and had a pretty bad history, somebody new would be good for the ba'ath party You're so broad about terrorism basically everyone in Iraq is a terrorist, they all have ties to militias who engage in terrorist activities, and everyone wants the protection of militias | ||||

| That link takes you to a site called GreaterIsrael.com (I think they spell it EretzYisrael, in keeping with Hebrew pronunciation). Yeah, that would be a great place to get an unbiased view of the Arab world.
