| Democrats Protested at Congress Protesters disrupt press conference on lobbying reform Washington Business Journal - 3:07 PM EST Wednesday by Kent Hoover Washington Bureau Chief House Democrats tried to unveil their lobbying reform package today, but their press conference was drowned out by chants from anti-war activists who want Congress to stop funding the Iraq war before taking on other issues. Led by Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a slain soldier, the protesters chanted "De-escalate, investigate, troops home now" as Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., began outlining the Democrats' plans to ban lobbyist-funded travel and institute other ethics reforms. The press conference was held in the Cannon House Office Building in an area open to the public. Emanuel finally gave up trying to be heard over the chants, and retreated to a caucus room where Democrats were meeting. Sheehan says she has nothing against lobbying reform, but she and her fellow anti-war activists want Democrats to know they will keep pressuring Congress to end the war in Iraq. "We wanted the Democrats to know they're back in power because of the grass roots," Sheehan says. The anti-war activists held their own Capitol Hill press conference earlier in the day before deciding to attend the lobbying reform press conference as well. Before the chanting started, Sheehan got a hug from Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., the new chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. Protesters disrupt press conference on lobbying reform - Washington Business Journal: Well, now they are in power. They get all of the fun with that! And don't forget that Sheehan represents your grass roots!

| Timothy McVeigh was never invited to Republican functions... Sheehan was used by the Democrats for political reasons. They trumped her up and used her. Once she started acting too loony and saying/doing things that could hurt them, they dropped her. I think this was around the time Katrina struck and she was demanding we pull rescue workers out of the "occupied New Orleans." So you're argument falls short for this simple reason... Sheehan was used and invited to Democratic functions. They paraded her around as their champion, much like many of the other mothers/wives that Ann Coulter took a lot of flack for calling "harpies." In other words, Timothy McVeigh was never made into a political symbol. The Republicans never used him as a tool to advance their agenda. They did use Sheehan. | ||||

| Foley was never in the media spotlight as the moral and political voice of the party. Sheehan was. It's funny how quickly people are to forget the role Sheehan played. She got a lot of criticism saying "She's just a mother, she's disgracing her son, etcetc" The liberals fought against that and kept throwing her at the media to make her into something more. They made her the star of their party. | ||||

| Sheehan says she and her activist buddies got this bunch elected. Now I would argue that they were elected "in spite" of these people. Note the moderate sweep, but let her voice be heard! Progressive Revolution! Also note the goal is to force an immediate end to Iraq war funds. This is the same tactic as used against Vietnam. Bleed the soldiers dry of the support and material they need to force them home! | ||||

| I have no problem with people protesting Democrats. It'll be nice to see liberals attempt to actually hold their elected representatives accountable for something. You know, unlike Republicans, who let their party stray wildly away from the core beliefs of the party and do stuff no true conservative would ever be on board with. | ||||

Sheehan was also never the moral and political voice of the party. She is someone who has lost a loved one in a pointless war and has a sad story to tell. She doesn't back down from protesting and some respected for for that. That's it. It's you guys that keep her going by bringing her up as often as possible while telling us who the "voice" of our party is. You are wrong. I'm sorry but it's true.
