Negotiating a raise?

Okay so here's whats up. My manager asked me to stay and told me to "keep a foot in the door" so I don't lose my benefits (vacation pay, senority, etc.)

Anyways, the guy in the dairy dept said they were talking about putting me in the dairy dept so I'm kinda wanting to go talk to him and ask for $8/hr (from $7) and to move me back there.

I like the new job but I'm afraid the hours are to unflexible with my school schedule. I've already asked them to change my availibility to weekend only and they said they coulndn't because one of the reasons they hired me was because of my large availibility.

On a side note, I made $16/hr at the new job today. But it's pretty stressfull (rembering to bring little shit, making sure orders are in, watching drinks, LOTS of shit to do.)

I just think the easier job with less stress is better for me in school. Any suggustions on how to go about it? I'm thinking of playing the "With college coming up" and "Car Payment" wildcard.

Do you think the new job will be less stressful once you've had a chance to adapt to it and are more comfortable in your role?

That's a pretty big difference in money, and I'd say the hours are what is most important. Less stress is important for sure, but if I remember right you needed to make some good money for college as well.. a nice savings now could be helpful later if you think you could manage it.

Of course, getting good grades could (and probably would) lead to a lot of scholarship opportunities as well.. so it's a balance.

eh my GPA is to low to get good scholarships, i fucked around my fresh/soph year. Money isn't really a issue, sure I'd love to have a couple grand in my bank account before college but I doubt it'll happen. Yeah sure the stress will ease off after a while but it's still going to be quite a bit more stress full / hard as compared to my other job. But the pay is quite a bit better as well. I guess I feel I'm best off with a steady pay and easy job with the flexible hours for school.

Just gotta grow some balls and figure out how to negotiate the raise/promotion from $7-8 and from cashier-dairy.

I talked to the boss at the store and i think i've got him putting me on the floor for $8/hr. Now I'm just deciding if I should put in my 2 weeks at red lobster.
