Even if the disease isn't life threatening, it's the same thing.

Cureable = less money, no?

Wouldn't that mean they have a responsibility to their shareholders NOT to find cures, but rather treatments that people have to continue taking?

Dead = no customer
Also, unless you have industry-wide collusion it might not make sense to make something that keeps you alive but doesn't cure you of, say, cancer or HIV or whatever. Sure you can live another 10 years with drug X, but if some little biotech firm out of nowhere comes with a cure then your business plan is pretty much fucked.

But what if someone else finds a cure while you only have a lifetime treatments?

They can charge absurd money for the cure since you only need it once while you can't sell a treatment cheap enough... you lose about every customer you had... they make billions... remember these are competing businesses

So work torwards developing one but don't release it if it ever happens?

I mean, that sounds kind of conspiracy theoryish, but these companies spend billions of billions of dollars in R&D to come up with these drugs.

I don't doubt for a second that they would prefer to make money by selling people pills they have to take daily for the rest of their lives rather than a single pill or treatment, or even something more prolonged.. but that ends at some point.

Whatever happened to babies not having souls until they're baptised?

Christians need to figure it out.

I just thought that a person would go to hell if they died before baptism because of original sin.

No, they'd release it and make the most they could off of it. That's the best economic scenario - when everyone has only treatments and you have a cure, you make billions. Look at the efforts to make vaccines which prevent any disease at all... in your conspiracy this would be a terrible idea. It just isn't the case.

Fundamentalist protestants always rant about how Mormons are heathens and not real Christians.

The bible belt fucking sucks.

Only time I went to a catholic church was for a catholic wedding, and I didn't learn much about them there. Had a few catholic friends, but I never talked about their religion. I know more about the various protestants, jews, buddists, mormons, and scientologists (and I've done a little reading up on Muslims, but all the various types confuse the hell out of me) than I do about catholics

Never had much reason to question their beliefs.

I think the ban was shortsighted. I also think it was religiously motivated - something that concerns me.

Stem Cell research in general needs to be explored as much as possible, and the idea of imposing religious-based morality from an absurd angle to slow it down (as opposed to reason and ethics) showcases some of the western world's biggest problems.

What are we, the taliban?
