| Democrats open floodgates for Higher Taxes House rules change clears way for tax increases By Donald Lambro THE WASHINGTON TIMES January 7, 2007 One of the first key procedural votes in the Democrat-controlled House last week established legislative rules that Republicans say will make it easier to raise taxes by a simple majority vote. The straight party-line vote received little attention Thursday as Rep. Nancy Pelosi, California Democrat, was elected speaker of the House. But Republican leaders and conservative tax-cut advocates said it opened up a huge loophole in a Republican-imposed rule drawn from the Republicans' 1994 Contract with America, which requires a supermajority, or three-fifths vote, to raise taxes. House rules change clears way for tax increases*-*Nation/Politics*-*The Washington Times, America's Newspaper That didn't take long.............

| Considering americans gave up on the contract with America...slowly giving more and more seats to democrats in 96, 98 and 2000, then briefly giving them more after 9/11, I'd say the "Contract with America" has as much of a mandate left as the "Great Society" does | ||||

| Good. We currently have an 8.67 trillion dollar problem, and it will be some place between 9 and 9.5 trillion by the time he leaves. Spending cuts alone are not substantial enough to put a dent in this debt that your conservative presidents have run up. We WASTE 400 billion a year on interest. That is nearly our defense budget. "Conservatives" see no issue with this because they said WUHHL LOOK at the GDP no big deal. So its no big deal to spend 400 billion on interest, on debt, but heads fucking roll when its 400 billion for healthcare. | ||||

| It's not, you can read about it anywhere, but as there is no solid plan for exactly how we are going to change income taxes this month, there's no big discussion about it However, Republicans were complaining about it if you bothered to watch CSPAN, it's not a state secret...the democratic response was pretty simple, they think its a dumb rule for 2007-2008...and I agree | ||||

| I get a good chuckle when people call this an "economic boom". If we were lucky, i bet we could only get them (democrats and republicans) to trim maybe 3% of the budget and we are still running deficits. More taxes are going to be neccessary to pay for the things that "conservatives" bought and financed. | ||||
