Especially for 7960

Since you live in NH, what do you think about the Free State Project?

[ Free State Project - Liberty in Our Lifetime ]

The reasoning behind them chosing NH is really the reason NH is the only state in the north I'd want to live in (hey, if I gotta put up with snow, at least value my liberties).

You tend to lean a little more right than Libertarians, so what do you think about libertarians wanting to take over you state?

Ever been to Porcfest? 2006 Porcupine Freedom Festival [ Free State Project - Liberty in Our Lifetime ]

Everyone else can comment on what they think of the FSP, but I'm especially wondering what non-libertarians think (or would think) about them coming in and trying to start their movement at the national level from your state.

They came here because they said the govt was small enough that they'd be able to get people elected and affect a difference relatively quickly. I don't actively keep track of them, but I read a daily and a weekly paper and I have yet to ever see them written up. I'm sure they have people who have been elected and I read the name and just didn't put 2+2 together, but the whole Free State Project is pretty silent.

How do I feel? If they want to get elected by the rules then let them. If they try to do stuff the state doesn't like they'll get the boot soon enough. It happened once in Merrimack when the Religious Right got 3 people on the school board and tried to start voting through a religious agenda.

THE REAL NEWS PAGE: N.H. Town Fights Back--and Wins! (link)

They got voted out pretty quick.

If the porcupines try it the same thing's going to happen, unless they actually get their numbers up high enough to affect an entire town's vote. I'm not saying it impossible, but ..... well let's just say they want 20,000 and so far 155 have made the move with some others "promising" to move if enough other people do (Participant Move Plans (link)) ........ sort of 5th-grade-ish, no?

I think that's pretty cool. It's nice to see some people actually trying to take action to effect the change they want to see in the world.. most people just talk about wanting to make a difference, but never want to sacrifice anything in order to make it happen.

As long as they play by the rules, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Well, I don't think their idea is to trick people into voting for them then abiding by some secret agenda... that's not very libertarian (and really wouldn't work unless the people understood why you were voting certain ways).

IMO, it's a cool concept and I hope that one day soon it's successful in actually making a change. They have good reasons for chosing NH, not that the gov't is small enough for them to get elected, but because NH is the most liberty-minded state in the union.

That's one reason I might see this not succeeding. I mean, how many people are really willing to give up their lives to move there without any guarentees?

No one will move until they find a job there (unless they're hippies or something, but I don't think there are many hippie libertarians).

So, of course, all that takes time

Well, it's a big step but I guess all great changes take sacrifice.
