Myth of the South giving enormous sacrifice in men and women to Armed Forces

The map shows it all, the North and "Left" Coast gave a lot more lives than the South

I always remember hearing as "common sense" that tons of Southerns went into the army...fought and died for the country while other regions were somehow less prone to such sacrifices

Well looks like that's one myth out of the way

green = more democrat

Notice how the counties outside the cities are bare, with the richest most republican areas, yet clumped in the cities the urban democratic poor are dying in Iraq

I know that i'm from South Louisiana and when i was in college a large majority of the males were enlisted in teh guard or reserves. It would be interesting to see the same pic but instead of showing the deaths have in show the amount of enlistments.

A better fighter will know how to spot IEDs and therefore be less likely to become a casualty of one. A better fighter will know how to not make himself a better target for a sniper.

and if he doesnt believe that, check out the casualty rate for the 82nd compared to the heavy units working in the same city.

Looks like we have a spokesman here to go tell the families that their loved ones didn't make a heroic sacrifice, but instead simply weren't good enough soldiers

So I guess the next step is saying we are better off that those 3,000 american soldiers are dead, they were the weak links in the chain and now we're more fit and stronger, the more dead that pile up, the stronger we get, increase the soldiers, put them at more risk, let the strong survive and those who perish are weak
