Democrats Scrambling To Organize Voter Turnout

Democrats Scrambling To Organize Voter Turnout

Top Democrats are increasingly concerned that they lack an effective plan to turn out voters this fall, creating tension among party leaders and prompting House Democrats to launch a fundraising effort aimed exclusively at mobilizing Democratic partisans.

doesn't this seem to be an issue for the democrats everytime election season rolls around?

No, they vote Democrat...its just that the States are setup so that the GOP gets an edge because the big states are more likely to be blue, Texas is the exception

Also, districts are gerrymandered to help the GOP

if everything was completely fair, the Dems would have taken back Congress in 2004 despite a Kerry loss

Nope. Registered democrats out number registered republicans. But on vote day, the Republicans come out to vote consistantly while the Dems do not.

False. The districts are set up so both parties dont have to compete. There was what 10 or so districts out of the 435 that had a legitament shot of going to either party ?

Based on what

Democratic Candidates: 94,965,901 (50.16% of the two-party vote)
Republican Candidates: 94,369,075 (49.84% of the two-party vote)

CNN.com Election 2004 - U.S. Senate
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2002/pages/results/senate/
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/pages/results/senate/

Simple math, they should control the Senate because they have more than 50%

When it comes to the house, everyone knows Texas and other states gerrymandered to maximize GOP districts, Dems have been more fair, in states like Cali they gave Dems and GOPers districts where each would get 60%+ of the vote, when they could have gained more seats by gerrymandering more and getting 53-55+ and picking up maybe 5+ seats

Again, if you add up all the house votes, and all the democratic house votes from 2004, Dems got more votes

We are talking about addition to get to 50%, what it gods name does that have to do with getting a super-majority or getting some higher percentage?

Saying "oh so they get over 50% of the vote, who cares" that violates every democratic principle i can think of in any elections except the EC and we weren't talking about the presidential election

In congress, if you get 50%+1vote, you win

Democrats get 50%+1vote in both Senatorial Races and Congressional Races, hence if things were fair, the Democrats would ALREADY control Congress

No I have a problem with GOP state assemblies gerrymandering their states, combined with the fact that all these rural unpopulated states get over-representation in the Senate...and House for that matter

its not the system...i mean if we just were able to get dems to move around, we'd have won congress and senate even in 2004

they do vote...its just California gets 2 senators and Wyoming gets 2

Look how this representation works, the smallest 5 states:
46 South Dakota 775,933
47 Alaska 663,661
48 North Dakota 636,677
49 Vermont 623,050
50 Wyoming 509,294

They all get 1 rep

Delaware Blue State gets what?
843,524 people 1 rep in Cali
500,000 people 1 rep in Nebraska
Big States, almost all Blue, you get ripped off for voters=reps

We are a republic not a democracy. It doesnt matter how many votes a Congressmen gets, 1 more then the competition is enough.

Come back to reality. Both parties fuck over the people by gerrymandering. Combine that with the incumbant automatically getting 45% of the vote and there is little to no competition.

we aren't talking about a particular congressmen, we are just saying if you add all the votes for all democrats in Congress up, they outweigh republicans...aka there are more DEMOCRATS WHO ACTUALLY VOTE than REPUBLICANS WHO ACTUALLY VOTE

No, both parties don't get fucked because more state legislators are controlled by republicans...if people are voting for Democrats more than Republicans, and they dont control either chamber, then its the Democrats who are getting fucked
