Minimum wage increase vs. tax cuts

ok, i have to admit, i think the republicans are taking it to the democrats on this one. i like this bill.

it'll be interesting to see what happens. are the democrats going to vote it down and say 'sorry all you minimum wage-earners, we won't give you a wage increase because the rich are getting a tax break!' or are the republicans going to cave in to the democrats? or will it get passed as is?

how do you measure "better economies"?

It seems to me businesses are moving away from the "better economy" states to the federal min states. Where has industry grown more, in Michigan, or in the south?

Unemployment is generally less in the federal min wage states as well.

I guess it's good for the rich people there, but what about the people who can't find jobs?

5.1 to 4.6....yeah terrible

Anyway, WA has the 14th best economy in the nation with their horrible unemployment numbers

The poor want a minimum wage increase and surely the rich want to live in a state with a better economy...so who loses here exactly?

the poor people without jobs are the losers. College students who want to work a few hours a week are the losers.

If a college student can't find a $7.15/hr job but still wants to work for $5.15/hr, why should the government say you can't do that?

Because you are GUESSING on what would happen, and the college students want to take that risk, along with other minimum wage earners

There is no poor anti-minimum wage hike movement, thats just making shit up

Let's compare economies shall we?

States with higher than mandated minimum wages:
California
Illinois
New York
Florida

OMG, those are 4 of the top 5 GSPs in the country!

Also, all those 4 states beat Texas in per capita PI! Shocking

perhaps their high cost of living is the reason they have a higher minimum wage ?

maybe higher cost of living leads to higher standards of living and a better home and economy?

BTW how cheap is it to live in Mississippi?

No minimum wage laws, and guess what, horrible economy, horrible personal income

Of course theirs no poor anti-minimum lobby - they don't know any better.

Those states are richer overall, but what about the poverty rates in those states, are they any lower than other states? The answer is no.

Except for florida, 3 out of your 4 picks have higher than the national average for poverty rates as well.

Table 2

I would vote no for the bill. The tax cuts are not responsible. We are still running deficits. I dont understand why republicans do not grasp this concept of you need to pay your bills. I thought they were the party of fiscal responsibility.

I would vote no for this just like i would have voted no for the bill that put the "bridge to no where" attached to funding for troops. Then i dont support the troops!

So you are going to oppose this because you are worried about the poverty level? Please

State economic growth and PI growth are one thing, but if you want to say that states who implement higher MW laws are becoming poorer, I'll need more than just that chart
