News flash: it wasn't the pressure from the conservatives.
The Soviet Union, China, and other nations had agreements with the US that it would not drive up the war or they would get more involved

The US knew they were serious because China did EXACTLY that in North Korea when we refused to stay away from the Chinese border.

If we tried to take away the supplies the VC was recieving from the NVA army, then the Soviets and China would have stepped in and supplied NV, if we tried to take over the whole country, China could have sent in troops of its own, again, to fight the US

well sir, you say "THE LEFT" when you refer to statement as such and I identify myself with the "left" along with many others. I can assure you that most of the "left" does not call our soldiers murderers and terrorists. I can also say that a good portion of those who represent the "left" in government have served our country with distinction in the armed forces, such as Wesley Clark, and others. Something that a lot of those on the "right" including many in the administration can't say for themselves because they had other priorities. I am not going to defend "left" people for skipping out on serving their country, but the "left" does not have control of all three branches of government either.

So when you say "the left" i assume that includes me and other democrats... and you see why i may take up argument with that.

You're just flatly wrong

Unlike Vietnam, no one here is blaming the soldiers en masse. There are soldiers who need to be held responsible for any actions they take which are illegal, but it's not the entire armed forces fault for the actions of what until now, has been a few.

Also, shuting up and listening to leaders and not being able to exercise freedom of expression, dissent, etc, is exactly what the terrorists want. They hate us for that freedom, amirite?

I think most of the disagreement in this country over the Iraq war has to do with how it's being run by the civilian leadership. The military has done a fantastic job so far in a shitty situation, the failures we've had have all been politically oriented, from the President's decision to not listen to his General's on down.

How can something that started a year or more ago not be happening right now? Halliburton must have built this guy a secret stealth bunker with no windows and internet connection.

I operated in the all-Sunni part of the country, Al Anabar province. There were no Shites

They don't report kill numbers (even on fox news) for sunnis, but they sure did for the Mahdi Army

by all accounts, we would have like a 100-1 kill ratio and we slaughtered them pretty easy

From what I've heard from anonymous military reports, is that the Sunnis in AA have groups of former special republican guards who are probably the best trained soldiers firing on American troops since the German Army

Easy there. The entire liberal house of cards might come tumbling down if you make statements like that.

Well, we'll have to know exactly what part of Iraq he served in to answer that.

But, I don't believe it's unreasonable to suggest that there are Iraqi insurgents in some areas and foreign fighters in others.

Of course that's a reaosnable suggestion. But it's also reasonable to assume that if he faced almost exclusive foreign fighter action in one province, then foreign fighter concentrations were also heavy else where.
