My New Tattoo...

So, since I am graduating from college this May, and I'm not knocked up, I want to get a tattoo to commermorate graduating. So, since I'm an English Major, and most of my classes or my emphasis was on Modernism and Contemporary novels and poetry, I thought I should get a tattoo of my favorite author....

So, this is what I'm looking at so far...

A) One of the few good things about modern times: If you die horribly on television, you will not have died in vain. You will have entertained us. -Kurt Vonnegut

B) Here is a lesson in creative writing. First rule: Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college. - Kurt Vonnegut

C) New knowledge is the most valuable commodity on earth. The more truth we have to work with, the richer we become. - Vonnegut

C) We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be. -Vonnegut

I was thinking of getting the quote across my upper back/neck, and then have this instead of his name:

to attribute the quote, does that make sense?

And in case it makes any difference, this would be my 5th tattoo...

What quote do you think fits this occassion? I am leaning towards B.

Sorry, but a tattoo that's just words? Never.

I'd get that scribble-face. I would not get a saying tattooed on me.

I prefer C from a quote standpoint. The second C is also good from a quote + tatoo standpoint.

What is the scribble thing exactly? His signature?

It's something he drew, and it has his last name scribbled in it...

I like the qoute though...it's different, people seldom get words unless they are names...

It's between B and C I think because they are both about knowllege....

That's a lot of words for a tat2. The picture is cool, just not sure how good it would look with all those words around it.

Tattoos aren't anything by themselves........ classy or not depends on the person.

I just don't like them. It's about as attractive as a woman that cusses. I prefer my women not to cuss.

I've never seen a classy tattoo.

I've never seen a tattoo turn a woman from classy to not......... I've seen plenty of "un"classy women who got tattoos to advertise that fact. I've seen plenty of classy women with tattoos who didn't turn "un"classy after getting it.

I think you've got your chicken/egg backwards.

Ok, perhaps you're right. I've never seen a classy woman with a tattoo. I've never seen a tattoo make a classy woman unclassy, because a classy woman wouldn't get one in the first place. And like you, I've seen plenty of unclassy women with tattoos.

I'd like to clarify the cussing remark too; I like my women to cuss when appropriate...in the bedroom

I'm going to use semicolons on Vonnegut's behalf; I know he loves them, and I've been to college.

I can't imagine having anything to do with grammar tattooed on me. Might as well get "i before e: except after c:" and then later, when funds replenish, get "or when sounding like a: as in neighbor and weigh" on the next line down.

Actually, I did see a tattoo once that I liked that was a poem. It was on Shannon Hoon's arm (lead singer of Blind Melon) but since I was a huge fan, I was probably biased.

Where were you planning to get it?

I think location matters a lot with words or sayings

I'm not interested in being classy...and I cuss like a sailor. Guess we weren't meant to be Ballz...

I suppose I just might be the kinda girl who gets all tatted up. The only reason I don't have a sleeve full is because my Husband requested I not take it THAT far...so I got all the one's I have in places that are easily hid by clothing.

I want to get something English/Modern/Contemporary related, and although words are uncommon for a tattoo, that is kind of what draws me to it, I thought it could be like the quote in three lines in the middle of my back, and then with a small dash, wish an equal of his charicature (I can't spell that word right now.)

In the Middle of my Upper back...I already have a sun on my shoulder, so this would kinda go on the same level as that, just in the middle.

I already have plans to get one with the kids' names....but that idea is already worked out, this I'm trying to put together...you know?

That quote made me laugh because my sophomore year I wrote a paper with too many semi-colons in it...and most people don't know what to do with them unless they've taken College Writing.
