| Jim Webb to give Democratic Response to Bush's SOTU Former Reagan Navy Secretary, freshly elected Senator Jim Webb (D-VA) will be delivering the Democratic response to President Bush's State of the Union speech, a congressional newspaper reports. "Congressional Democratic leaders are expected to announce that freshman Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) will deliver the official response to President Bush's State of the Union address next Tuesday," Erin P. Billings reports for Roll Call. Roll Call adds that the Vietnam veteran also has a son "fighting in Iraq" and "will help the Democrats counter Bush's recent call to increase troop levels in Iraq and continue the conflict." The Raw Story | Former Reagan Navy Secretary to deliver Democratic response to Bush's SOTU fucking awesome Jim Webb is by far the most promising Senator I've seen in my life-time...top notch intellectual with real red america respect but firebrand populism and anti-iraq war Too bad most people flip after the president is done, but for those who watch...it's going to be great to watch the knockout Webb is going to deliver You could talk about what you think the president should address in the SOTU and what the Democrats should address in their response, and what you think of both speakers Last edited by Thorgrim; 01-17-2007 at 04:44 PM.. | ||||

| I don't see the SOTU being much more than it has per year. except Bush is going to mention the "work together" cliche again. This way he puts the burden of any gridlock between congress and him as thier fault. He'll re-hash what he said about Iraq last week, but nothing more. He'll likely throw in some jibber jabber about domestic issues, and take credit for the economy. Other than that, I expect to see a lot of from Pelosi standing there, and cheney just | ||||

What I think the Democrats should respond with is irrelevant; I expect more Bush-bashing.

| Oh yeah, POTENTIAL Webb and Tester could be the new face of the democratic party that rules for the next 60 years and dominates the white house...Obama AT THIS POINT seems more like democrats crossing their fingers hoping for a JFK/Clinton feeling hitting voters Webb has the potential to become one of the best senators of all time, Obama could have the potential to become one of best president of all time I think the former is far more likely (even if Obama were elected) However, there is always a chance Webb could take a hard turn right and become Zell Miller II | ||||

It's very easy to see the GOP becoming the party of the old confederacy states (ironic?) except losing AR and FL but having OK and KS...probably UT and SD staying with the GOP too However the GOP will become a regional party, it's a distinct possibility, it doesn't make the air that much because it depends a lot on the elections of 2008, 2010 and 2012 The GOP is already losing its "security" edge, if a democratic president is seen leading the "war on terror" effectively by moderates from 2008-2012, the GOP loses major stock, if in 2012 the new reallignment keeps the edge to democrats as everyone redraws, and Democratic Senators/Reps start coming out of Arizona, Alaska, Wyoming, etc it's only a matter of Democrat Catholic Latinos becoming the new Democratic Catholic Irish in terms of a new powerbase, comined with what they have...that powerbase will keep growing, and they have long memories they'll never forget the GOP tried to label their parents as felons and deport them
