Yes. Improv depends on talented actors. You can't bring in any outside people in improv. Take 'Who's Line Is It Anyway' as an example.

Not to mention, as already discussed in this thread, Colbert was answering Bill's questions before he even asked them.

Is anyone claiming that any one on this thread has extensive 'improv experience'?

It is my impression that some of you have secret 'back channel' IM conversations prior to posting , ..., possibly

he's not an outside person doing improv, he's someone that's actually done it before, many times

After two years, he transferred to Northwestern University's School of Communication to study performance, emboldened by the realization that he loved performing even when no one was coming to shows.[10] While there, he became involved in the improvisation troupe ImprovOlympic. After college, he went to work at The Second City and participated in improv classes there.[12]
Colbert sometimes comedically refers to his surname as French, but his family is actually of Irish descent[3]. Originally, the name was pronounced "Col-bert", but Colbert's father had always wanted to pronounce the name "Col-BARE", remaining "Col-bert" only out of respect for his own father. As a result, James Colbert offered his children the option to pronounce the name whichever way they preferred.[4] Colbert started using "Col-BARE" when he transferred to Northwestern University, taking advantage of the opportunity to reinvent himself in a new place where no one knew him.[

While at Northwestern, Colbert studied with the intent of becoming a dramatic actor; mostly he performed in experimental plays and was uninterested in comedy. He began performing improv at the Annoyance Theatre in Chicago as a part of Del Close's ImprovOlympic at a time when the project was focused on competitive, long form improvisation, rather than improvisational comedy. "I wasn't gonna do Second City," Colbert later recalled, "because those Annoyance people looked down on Second City because they thought it wasn't pure improv — there was a slightly snobby, mystical quality to the Annoyance people."

I believe Colbert can do improv. I don't believe O'Reilly or other Colbert's guests can.

Like I said, Colbert isn't the only one in these shows.

O'Rly struggled the entire time.. that's hwo you can tell it wasn't scripted.. Billo was cracking on both shows, on his by the constant French/name questions and also the attempted stab at the Daily Show.

On the Colbert Report you could tell he was on edge the whole time, while Colbert was having fun with it.

Colbert answered questions before O'Reilly was finished asking them. How can even the best improv artist improv on material he hasn't even heard yet?

Answer: he can't.

I think people on those shows recieve an outline of what the host will talk about.

That doesn't mean they wont stray from it or let the interview shift into other directions.

You absolutly can. That's one thing that make Colbert funny.

Using "whos line" is a bad example. Those people have never been on camera and are just bodies. People who go out and do interviews on shows are totally different.

I finally summoned up the waste of time to watch these clips

Colbert took O'Reilly apart massively, it was embarrassing, like watching someone beat up a blind cripple

It didn't appear scripted to me, not least coz O'Reilly would have done better if it was

It was somewhat scripted. A lot of it was also not scripted, though. Both knew what they were going in for and both did it for ratings. For liberals to think that Colbert "owned" O'Reilly is just

It was all a big joke. The audience knew it. And both hosts knew it.
