Yes, it's done all the time on TV, especially when it's people on opposite sides of the coin. I find it to be rather interesting that it's only the liberals that are claiming O'Reilly got "owned" by Colbert.

I didn't say that only liberals dislike Orly.

And uh no, Colbert made joke after joke, but Orly knew that's what it was going to be like. No ownage found. Ownage would be John Steward calling Tucker Carlson a dick on Crossfire; this was not ownage. It was friendly sparring.

There was no ownage here, it was two guys having a good time and upping ratings. If O'Rielly were getting "owned" he would have raised his voice and started giving it back. It was just a good natured interview for publicity.

I know a lot of people here like Colbert and dislike O'Rielly with a burning passion, but there was no ownage here, there weren't even any attacks. It was just a ratings event.

ColberT is a satirist, O'Rielly let him do his thing. It was all in good fun.

I loved it! It was an E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-M-E-N-T Segment and it came off great!

Maybe it should have been "The most ridiculous Item of the Day" but it is not my show!

Yeah, we're pathetic for calling it what it is. You're the one glorifying Colbert, of all people...

I don't think it's glorifying him, he made Orly look like a complete tool, and made fun of him constantly..as far as I'm concerned, he was destroyed on TV

Doesn't he make fun of everyone? That's kind of his job, and certainly what's expected out of him, no?

Destroyed? Intelligent...I doubt O'Reilly invited him on with the intention of having serious conversation with him, but to each his own. If you want to believe that, that's fine.

Funniest part of the Colbert show, "The man is a sexual predator!" (Referring to Stewart), then "You have no idea what that's like!" (sarcastically)

It was fucking hilarious, I think a lot of people missed it.

Also, I doubt seriously it was entirely scripted. Colbert is a talented person and has been building material to deal with O'Reilly's common stuff for over a year now..

How could have Orly possibly owned Colbert, I don't think he got in one comment that touched a glove on colbert, he got some wisecracks in about stewart...but colbert uses those very same lines on stewart in his show

Colbert on the other hand got tons of jabs at orly, probably the most "unscripted" being the under-handed jab at orly having a sexual harrasment suit

At the end of the night it was clearly something like
Colbert 28
Orly 0

Now, is that "ownage" ofcourse is subjective, now, I don't think it's up there with catching that GOP Congressman not knowing the 10 commandments when he was trying to get them placed in court rooms, but I'd say it crosses the line into owned

If you disagree, whatever, but to think that there's a serious argument that orly "owned" colbert, or even did better than him, is ridiculous

Maybe because he wasn't trying to "own" anybody . I think that's the point. Everyone loves to say how Orly just goes off on people, yells at them, cuts their mic, acts like an arrogant idiot when he's losing a debate, etc etc. Why then did he keep his cool and light-hearted composure? Orly is not one to allow someone on his show and insult him. The idea that Colbert so cleanly "owned" Bill O without any retaliation is ridiculous and goes against all the anti-Bill mantra we've heard.
