Wait until we find out what the fence is going to consist of. Then speculate all you want with an educated point of view.

Like I said earlier in the thread, a penny spent on the fence is a penny wasted.

Unless it's going to look like the DMZ between NK and SK, and it runs from the gulf to the ocean, it won't stop people and is a waste of money.

you'd rather have nothing than a fence.

it might not completely stop people from crossing (nothing will, that's common sense) but it will surely slow them down (also common sense)

who's claimed it will stop everyone? i just want ot reduced drastically. do we complain about the number of cubans coming over? of course not. cause it's drastically lower.

the fence will slow the mexicans down. and how can you bash the fence so early when you have no idea what it's going to be? you're just assuming it's going to fail before you have any idea what you're talking about?

it's a step in the right fucking direction. how long have you been complaining about the immigration prolbem? and when they finally are going to do SOMETHING about it, you're complaining. give me a fucking break.

I don't necessarily think it'll fail completely, I just think it's futile when our problems run deeper. We COULD be spending time and resources on a real solution instead of a band-aid for a side effect

the REAL solution being?

there is nothing keeping them from coming across the border. we need something in place. that's a real solution.

second thing to follow up is deal with those that give them jobs here (and deal with those that are already here)

third thing is to make mexico a better country so they'll stay.

it's not a 'one or the other' thing, it's a combination of things that will fix this. to be against this because 'it won't stop the problem' is absurd.

Like what? There was a town in PA that made it really tough for illegals to get jobs, their kids couldn't get in school, people found hiring illegals would get fined etc and they were all called racists, probably by the same people that think the fence is a bad idea.

There is no perfect solution. But if the fence is built well enough that it prevents a LOT of people from even trying, then lets do it.

Mexico being a good or bad country has nothing to do with anything. People hiring immigrants is not a bad thing. Them coming across the border was a nonissue for over 225 years.

You look at it too much as what it has become instead of what got it to this point. Socialized programs (freebies) that can be taken advantage of makes this country more attractive. You stop THAT, the problem will solve itself, because then they have to abide by all the economic rules that regular citizens abide by.

Immigrant workers is NOT a bad thing, even if they aren't real citizens.

It's not even going to slow them down. They will know where the fence is and cross in other spots.

that's not the godamn point. the point is, it's going to take more than one thing to fix this, and this is just part of it.

immigrant workers ARE a bad thing when they drain the economy of their resources and don't give money back...they send it to mexico.

Oops. Surprise, surprise. From the Hazelton, PA thread.

You think they just start walking for the border and look for places to get over?

They plan it. They pay people to get them across much of the time. Hell, most don't even cross the border like that at all. Most come over as a migrant worker and just never go home.

Waste of money.

Sending money to mexico is the same as spending money here... our money isn't good there, it has to come back to us somehow. So, they might use our money to buy wheat or something, but it's still coming back.

Have you never studied exchange and exchange rates? Our money means nothing to Mexico, but someone who has a dollar can go to a bank and change it to pesos. Then the bank has the dollar and can either trade it with America for pesos that were exchanged here, or sell it to the government or sell it to someone who needs to come to America with it. The government (or person who bought it) can then buy American goods.

Exchange of money between countries isn't magical. It's actually based on stuff. Money that gets sent to other countries isn't money LOST, it's still money that'll be used

all of that is still harder than just walking. if you argue that, then it's not even worth talking about this with you.
