| Newsweek: Democrat has 21pt lead in 2008 matchup (poll data inside) 1. Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with the way things are going in the United States at this time? Satisfied 30% Dissatisfied 62% DK 8% 2. Now thinking ahead to the next presidential election. In general, would you rather see a Democrat or a Republican elected as our next president in 2008? Democrat 49% Republican 28% Other 4% DK 19% 24. Now I have just a few more questions so we can describe the people who took part in our survey. Regardless of how you might have voted in recent elections, in politics today, do you consider yourself a Republican, Democrat, or Independent? GOP 26% Dem 37% Ind 33% Oth 4% NEWSWEEK Poll - Newsweek Politics - MSNBC.com Now on Polling, three things before I get the usual complaints #1 Like most polling outfits, Democrats not only usually have an advantage because of the number of conservative Democrats greatly outways liberal Republicans, but they currently have on in basically every poll Fox News as of it's latest poll conducted about the same time has a +7 instead of a plus +11 Democrat lead, still sizeable...no one is saying Fox News weighs its polls to benefit Democrats http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/...oxnewspoll.pdf #2 As polling experts will tell you, the type of questions asked changes party ID by the end of the poll Mystery Pollster: The Latest from CBS/NYT Moderate GOPers are more likely to say they are independent and independents more likely to say they are Democrat after a long series of questions that make Republicans look bad, however the news cycle is certainly focused on Iraq and Bush, and Newsweek responded accordingly #3 So to see whether this poll is total fluff (which they almost never are) check out the answers to the other questions...notice the support level for escalating troops, Bush's approval on Iraq, etc...they all match the national averages, if the group really was skewed, you'd see numbers lower than CNN's 11% for escalation, NW's poll has more than double that support Finally, it was done by Princeton Survey Research Associates International, an extremely prestigious group that sampled over 1000 americans --- Now, onto the results, I think this obviously shows a great starting point for Democrats, what we need is a Democrat who is not tainted, experienced, and moderately progressive, to not only win but unify that country, Governor Bill Richardson is that person, with overwhelming foreign policy experience and a real governor of a state that has struggled rather than a DC-insider who comes into office with baggage and old grudges and he's moderate enough that the whole country could rally behind him in a post-Bush era that could have us become the country we should have been after 9/11 What do you think about the best Democrat that can be fielded, the numbers as they stand today, and Gov. Richardson? | ||||

| I think Wes Clark needs to hurry up and toss his hat in, people are leaving him to support those who've entered the race officially. I don't know enough about Richardson's history to really have any opinion about him, but I think whoever we have next needs to have military experience in either the Presidency or the Vice Presidency. We're at war and we need someone with command leadership experience IMO. | ||||

Clark and I don't know if he'll be able to keep up with the dirt
It might like John Kerry giving his salute and "ready to serve" and then when that is viciously attacked...what are you left with? People who in the primaries voted for him because he was a military war hero turned into people who voted for him just because he wasn't Bush Richardson is a governor, not much dirt as the successful governor of NM, and I think his foreign policy experience in Darfur and around the world is enough to match McCain or Rudy...and everyone else he'd leave in the dust...heck I think he's gonna leave McCain in the dust after the escalation doesn't work...only Rudy would stand a chance and I don't think he'll make it out of the primary strong enough to win

| Latest Fox Poll has 40% democrats and a +7 Dem weight, I guess that poll is horribly bias as well...can you at least attempt to read the entire post before making snide remarks, or just stay out of the thread if you have nothing constructive to say | ||||

Reps want to vote for Reps. Independeants are split. But that title is misleading.
