Dozens dead as Sunni insurgents target Baghdad while Shia militias take a low cover

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Two nearly simultaneous bombs struck a predominantly Shiite commercial area in central Baghdad, killing at least 62 people and wounding dozens, police said.

The first blast occurred shortly after noon when a bomb left in a bag placed among the stalls of vendors peddling DVDs and secondhand clothes exploded in the Bab al-Sharqi area between Tayaran and Tahrir squares.

It was followed almost immediately by a parked car bomb just feet away.

One can make the case that we are indirectly responsible for these deaths, our lashing out at Shia militias has caused them to take a low profile, stop vigorous check points that were protecting shia markets, less guards in the area, leave the city all together

What does this naturally leave? A vunerable Shia in Baghdad, and the Sunnis wasted no time in taking advantage to cause 67+ people to die

These chain of events started when we announced we were going to go after Shia militia

It's an interesting point to discuss if nothing else, if we completely flush out the militias, and Shias start dying the scores everyday, the Iraqi people are going to be chanting for al-Sadr to come back and save them, the whole green zone could be over-run

Was there any announcement that only Shia militias were to be targeted?

The reaction of the Sadrist militias is not surprising though, as you suggest. Although their politicos have rejoined the admin
