State Of The Union - Bush's Speech Tonight

I'm new to the forum. I hope all is well and look forward to getting to know you.

What did everyone think of Bush's speech tonight? I thought he did a good job on delivery... only I think most will see the speech as the same old thing. I dont think he convinced the American people of much tonight.

he definetely isn't the conservative everyone hoped he would be

i just wish he would get a handle on fiscal policy. unfortunetly he doesn't mind spending OUR money! :-)

The speech was what I expected him to say. He's starting to move towards the Democrats persepective and trying to save whatever is left of his legacy.

He must have been a hypnotist though cause everyone was asleep...

It was garbage. He's just jumping through hoops at this point, pretending he cares. He's not even doing a good job at that. 90% of it was obtuse statements that meant nothing said by a man who is nothing.

Half of us here could've written better speeches than that.

a lot of them sit in the chairs and read along with the speech since they are all handed that when they come in

Who cares if they pay attention honestly? The State of the Union is nothing more than a glorified bump in the polls for the sitting President and his party.

Instead of some stupid speech, the State of the Union each year should be reorganized into a short speech by the President, followed by organized questions by the House and Senate about various concerns and issues they have.

If you've ever watched the UK's House of Commons and seen Tony Blair sitting in front of the rest of the elected representatives, answering questions and responding to comments, you're probably as jealous as I am.

I'm so sick of the "movie star" status we give the President / Vice President, like he's too good and important to sit and answer questions directly from people without it being scripted, or pre-selected as supporters, or too good to sit in front of Congress the same way Tony Blair does.

Check out this video and tell me you don't crave the ability to have the same access to ask the President (whoever it is, not just Bush) the same real questions:
