| Reason some of you (including myself) might change your primary support to Gen. Clark he said this: "You just have to read what's in the Israeli press. The Jewish community is divided but there is so much pressure being channeled from the New York money people to the office seekers." This, of course, is true. I'm Jewish and I don't think the United States should bomb Iran, but Thursday night I was talking to a Jewish friend and she does think the United States should bomb Iran. The Jewish community, in short, is divided on the issue. It's also true that most major American Jewish organizations cater to the views of extremely wealthy major donors whose political views are well to the right of the bulk of American Jews, one of the most liberal ethnic groups in the country. Furthermore, it's true that major Jewish organizations are trying to push the country into war. And, last, it's true that if you read the Israeli press you'll see that right-wing Israeli politicians are anticipating a military confrontation with Iran. Everything Clark said, in short, is true. What's more, everybody knows it's true. Needless to say, the increasingly ridiculous Abe Foxman, head of the Anti-Defamation League, was swiftly located in order to ply his trademark tactic of accusing people of anti-Semitism that he knows perfectly well aren't anti-Semites American Prospect Online - ViewWeb He eventually backed away from the comments, but at least there is a politician smart enough to know part of the Israel-US lobbying connection and a tacit recognition that we shouldn't follow Israel just to get New York voters or because we've never heard of a modern president NOT listening to the word of Israel's lobbying groups | ||||

| My whole thing is that Israel has its own bombs, its own nukes, and can do its own bombing. I don't think we should do it, directly or indirectly. We've armed them to the teeth and they've proven more than capable of taking care of themselves. I say let them do it if it's gonna happen. I'm really surprised Clark would make a statement like that though. I hope more people speak up about this and at least get this debate on the table, where it's actually talked about. | ||||

| The fact that Jewish opinion is divided in both the United States and Israel is not news. A society that does not debate issues is a scary one. If the United States does take some strategic bombing of Iran to destroy Nukes I would hope the major justification is the interests of the United States. The use of nuclear weapons in the Middle East ceratinly has broader implications than just the destruction of Israel as horrible as that would be. And I must say the General is the first to label New York money that flows into politics as Jewish? Plenty of that money flows from wealthy liberals and Rockefeller Republicans of all races. I would like to see any prominent Republican talk about the left wing money coming from Hollywood Jews and not get his backside torn "a new one" from the press!

| I find it interesting that you think the wealthy jews are to the right of mainstream, a guy I work with is jewish and he thinks the opposite. Wonder if thats just from different perspectives from individuals with different political views? | ||||

Remember that big jewish group in new york that talked about how we don't need to bomb Iran and Lebanon was over-kill Neither do I, because such a group doesn't exist, because all the money goes to the pro-right wing IDF lobby | ||||

| Clark is probably the best candidate out there IMO. He brings so much to the table that no other candidate does, and from what I've seen of him he's willing to do what McCain did in '00, speak truth to power. I don't see anyone on the right with the experience and leadership skills to help us get through the situation Bush has forced us into. It's rather amusing to me though, that right wingers were bitching about John Kerry's military service record while defending Bush's, and now would rather overlook Clark's because he's progressive on certain issues in favor of candidates with zero military command experience. Iraq is the biggest issue we face right now, and barring some extremely unlikely quick turn around, it's going to be the biggest issue in '08 as well. We need someone who has the past experience with similar situations, and none of the Republican candidates have that (that I'm aware of.) | ||||
