it really bothers me that the minimum wage bill was blocked

i really can't figure out. what do the dems feel is most important? how would this bill NOT benefit society?

minimum wage affects MANY more than the tax cut would. why block a whole bill because you don't agree with the tax cut? the democrats have been pushing for a minimum wage increase for YEARS. minimum wage earners, who i guess typically vote democratic (cause they are poor ) are paying for this decision the most...

not to mention, the tax cut is almost ridiculous and inconsequential...why is it so important that a family's assets be taxed more than once? how many times do you want to take away money from the family for the same money? if you parents give you 100 bucks, do you pay taxes on it again? if they give you 1000 bucks, do you pay taxes on it again? if they were to give you 1,000,000 bucks, why should you pay taxes on it again? i don't care if it's 'under new ownershop' or 'newly acquired wealth' or whatever the arguments are. the fact is, taxes HAVE been payed on it, and it's the principle behind the matter.

democrats care more about 'the rich getting richer' (actually, the rich getting poorer...to think, one of the arguments on LL was that paris hilton was getting more money! oh the horror!) than they do about people actually needing the minimum wage increase...something they've been 'fighting for' over the years. it's complete bullshit.

don't even tell me this bill was blocked because the 8 states with the tip earners might get less...that's even a worse reason.

I would have blocked it for that reason, how the hell does the federal government come in and give people pay cuts

I believe the bills should be voted upon seperately and passed/fail based upon their own merits. This kind of bill is basically hijacking the issue of the estate tax with minimum wage.

I would have voted against it because the estate tax needs to be left alone. Its fine where it is. We can introduce the minimum wage bill on its own, and watch it fail because republicans won't pass it on its own. Can you not see through what they are doing?

Its like "you can bone this hot chick, but it will cost you a dildo in the ass" Hey, im gonna go ahead and pass ..i'll beat off in the corner kthx

There is nothing wrong with compromise, however when its a shitty deal i'd say no.

Its like trading in your car...getting raped on the trade in and they pretend they give you a good deal on the new one. Nice compromise.

Because in a compromise both sides lose.

The tax cut WAS that important

We have many taxes in this country, it is a system designed on a progressive scale

Hence, a man who makes a lot pays higher taxes, and then when he buys a certain item like a Aston Martin, he pays a luxury tax, and then a gas-guzzler tax, then a sales tax, etc etc

There is no principle in the constitution about "you can't tax what i earn twice!!" so if it benefits america, and our defense against terrorism, then you have no ground to stand on except the age old argument of trying to justify greed by twisting logic and morality

The Estate Tax is designed for VERY important reasons:
1) If we eliminated it, we'd suffer such a loss in revenue, we would be incapable of recovering without cutting middle class programs that enjoy wide support, much more so than any movement against an estate tax
2) It makes people spend their vast fortunes instead of letting it sit under their pillows, outside the economy...concentrated wealth that is out of circulation kills an economy. When people save more and spend less, thats a road to a depression.

As a sidepoint to 2, there is nothing wrong with such a measure, if a radical conservative had a huge estate, he could easily spend the money to advance all the causes he loves, he can then give his children a million dollars to help kickstart their lives WITHOUT TAXES

do you not even stop to think about how much more will be taken in if the poor pay more taxes because of their pay increase?

you've already been shown this year the incredible increase in tax revenue due to bush's tax cuts. you have this uncanny ability to see one thing at a time, and forget the rest of the picture.

I find it funny that people like you were saying a min wage increase would be this horrible thing for the economy, and now you are flabbergasted that the dems wouldn't go along with it so the rich could get their tax cuts.

But they are the party of absolute morality! No compromise on Jesus as our nations Lord and Savior! No compromise on national defense! No compromise on reducing big government and lowering regulations!

I'm flabbergasted that he is in support of a min wage increase. If it came out that the republicans added the tax cut because they knew the dems wouldn't pass it, I would say

I'm completely against min wage increases, regardless of tax cuts that ride along with them.

It bothers me that you are willing to compromise our economy so the rich can pass on more of their weath to people who didn't earn it for free.

are you kidding me? both aspects benefit the economy. this would do more good than harm, by far.

think about it...the rich put tremendous amounts of money into our economy...if they have more, they put more in. not to mention, if they own business that hire minimum wage earners (or anybody else) they have more jobs

the poor would get paid more...that would increase tax revenues and also put more money into the economy.

i don't see how this is a compromise to the economy at all.

You can't take the moral high ground and throw out compromises that violate your principles

You can't take a poor christian 18 year old girl, who needs money for college, and a porn producer offers to pay for all her college if she does 20 pornos

It's against her christian values, but she needs money, so she compromises and becomes a full contact stripper

That is still a sacrifice of principles

Party of Principles != Party of Compromising Principles
