Why does hillary look so ragged lately?

here's a couple recent pics...

Not sure whats going on with her but the last 6 years she looks like she's aged two decades. Scary to see what will happen to her if she actually gets to run the country for 8 years...

Is she in bad health or something?

I think it's refreshing to see someone her age in the media as often as she is and who doesn't get botox. She's 60 years old. She looks her age.

well I'd agree with the botox statement but compared with how she looked just 6 years ago she looks much older now

Fortunately the Democrats have a future, and the 2008 election is heavy slanted towards the Democrats, I think the betting sites have the GOP with only a 40% chance of winning, and thats just because there's so much time and people aren't betting

The democrats control Congress, the people approve of Spkr Pelosi (who conservatives thought the people would despise) and their opinions of Bush go even lower (down to 28%), and there's nothing positive in anyones mind about the GOP minority

It's a bright year for democrats and a sad year for Republicans, so all they have is to make fun of someone's looks for not being really attractive in their old age

As pointed out by Pro Street (where is he?) we are getting pretty high into the pathetic attacks on Democrats by right-wingers

No we wouldn't.

Women in politics can often depend on their votes to not be on their qualifications, but also their physical appeal to the general population. With men, it is not an issue unless the man is incredibley good looking and on the young side. But, in DC, most women are under scrutiny. A politicians wife has standards of appearance as well as women who are in office.

If his appearance changed, yes we would.

Kerry's botox was front-page news. Then his fake tan, then his attempts to look cool in riding gear and climbing gear and hiking gear......there was even a story about his hair at one point. I don't think they were news but they made the papers so I guess someone thought they were. And all of those were "news" because his appearance dramatically changed. So has hers. That's why people have noticed.

I would argue that the standard that she is held to with her appearance that apparently some say she has "let go" is a higher standard of ridicule than a 60 year old man attempting to retain his youthful features. We are ridiculing her for loosing beauty, because we are socialized to hold women to a high standard of acculturated norms for standards for beauty. John Kerry is a man who tries to retain his youth, and his ridicule stems from the underlying idea that men of his stature in society should look like someone who is wise, who has age, and who has experience, and he who tries to shed that is someone who will be ridiculed for stepping outside his role.

I disagree.

His looks changed (some say drastically) and people noticed and wrote/talked about it.
Her looks have changed (some say drastically) and people noticed and wrote/talked about it.

I don't think she's being held to any standard other than "looks have changed (some say drastically)."

There will always be people who find any little thing to talk about (like Condi and her black boots and trenchcoat, link) but mainstream media (and I don't consider the fashion section of the washington post to be "mainstream") don't give a shit about looks until/unless they change.

OK. We can disagree. I don't believe the motive is just change. I believe we seek certain people to change and expect that change to happen. And when someone doesn't conform to the appropriate changes society expects.
