McCain: Stay in Iraq for the next 1000 yrs until experiment w/ democracy is a success

COOPER: Is there any scenario in which withdrawing troops would be acceptable to you, or redeploying them?

MCCAIN: Not until we have the situation under control, to the degree that the Iraqi government can exert its influence through most of the country, that you start with the — that you move forward with a political and economic process.

COOPER: So, success is crucial before the U.S. can pull out in any meaningful way?

MCCAIN: That’s my view. And that view, by the way, is held by the majority of experts that I know about the region.

Well I REALLY hope McCain gets nominated, he's the Bob Dole of 2008

Do any of you hope for a different candidate besides McCain to get the GOP nod? Maybe a Chuck Hagel, or someone with a less Iraq-Hawkish to the death view?

You realize that pulling out now will just turn it into a worse mess and make the last 4 years for nothing.

The part you quoted goes along with every plan out there, that even a "redeployment" would be on the condition that the country is stable.

Timetable plans give the president discretion because they don't want him to do anything foolish (like keep troops in Iraq when the well runs dry and claim democrats are starving troops)

However Democrats never intended that there be some crucial success before we pull out, otherwise we're there until we all die
