Does everybody need to be a 'expert' to be taken seriously ?.

I'm having a hard time wading through the melodrama to get to the point of that story, but I believe the guy who figured out how to help her was named DOCTOR Willoughby. And although he wasn't an expert on rabies, he is an expert on human anatomy and how the brain and nerves work. And all he really did was take a guess that putting her in a coma might "buy her immune system some time."

So, to sum up........ al gore writing a book about the climate is NOWHERE near a medical doctor taking a guess that putting her in a coma *might* help.

I had difficulty as well. I had seen a documentary so was aware of the story anyway.

But then, working against the clock, Willoughby found an obscure paper on the Internet which suggested the first glimmer of an idea. The author had discovered that while rabies patients die having violent fits and convulsions, their brain's appear to be physically undamaged. This turned our understanding of the way rabies killed on it's head. From what Willoughby was reading, the virus seemed to hijack the brain, scrambling it's messages, causing havoc in the host body that led to the failure of all vital organs. It was the rabid brain that killed the patient.

Imagine if he had ignored that !. I picked up on ignoring something because it was seemingly irrelevant. That is what the ethos of the doctor was . He said ''If the study is not a cure i do not bother to read'' . How wrong he was.

And all he really did was take a guess that putting her in a coma might "buy her immune system some time."

That is correct. He had a bit of 'blue sky' thinking.

So, to sum up........ al gore writing a book about the climate is NOWHERE near a medical doctor taking a guess that putting her in a coma *might* help.

He is not alone bios . No, he is not a expert neither do i think he claims to be. He has seemingly brought together other people. Along with putting forward his own opinion.

Along with any climate scientist you can name, we can all ignore whomever we wish, if we wish. BUT I just suggest not to ignore anybody because they are not a 'expert'.

We also don't know who the original author was. It might have been my grandmother and it might have been the world's leading researcher on neurophysiorabiesography. Before we credit "non-experts" we should actually know who originally had the idea.

The people in those bios are conservationists. I didn't see any information about their education. Are they scientists? Climatologists? Meteorologists even? Or are they just rich guys who used to run big companies that polluted a lot of shit?

I don't ignore people who aren't expert but their input doesn't have quite the weight.

At the end of the day does it matter. The 'brainstorm' was sitting on a server for who knows how long. It was plucked from obscurity by a none expert. He put 2 and 2 together and made it 4. Like a lot of ideas. Heck we all have moments of clarity from time to time. Both of us could come up with the secret to the universe erm maybe just by reading ''stuff''.

Well that would have taken some work, i can do that if you so wish. The point was he had gathered together 'minds' who actively look at solutions and i suspect know what they are talking about.

I don't ignore people who aren't expert but their input doesn't have quite the weight.

To be fair those authors could have been talking out of there arse. We would not know untill we read their thoughts. That is basicaly all i'm saying.
