In other news Mr. Rudy, republican hero of 9/11, was on Hannity and Colmes yesterday saying that he supports tougher gun legislation as a means to reduce crime. He claimed under his regime in New York that crime went down because of this tougher gun legislation. He supported the assault weapon ban and supports anti-handgun legislation, though he made note that it was more applicable to urban areas with crime problems.

Is the hero full of shit about crime rates in correlation with gun laws?

Did he say gun crime went down *because* of tougher gun legislation or did he say "we passed tougher gun legislation and gun crime went down"?

there's a difference, and the 2nd may be factually correct while the 1st is totally wrong.

He set the bar for good leadership during a crisis. I'm not sure I'd call it heroic, but his actions after 9/11 put him in very good favor with a lot of the country.

Its on the tail end of the 8 minutes, i believe around 6:30-7:00. To me it sounds like he gives gun legislation credit for reducing crime...as in *because* of gun legislation crime is reduced.

I'm not so sure that's what he said, especially listening to what he said around it. Sounds to me like he thinks it's ok for law-abiding citizens to have and carry guns.

Its sounds to me that they dont want people who are prohibited, because of something they did, from owning firearms to ever own them again. On that concept I agree with it.

However, the waiting periods and all that are dumb. I am generally a pro-gun democrat, other than assault weapons. I don't think anyone has a need to own one of those. The military and police choose them for a reason, and its not to hunt rabbits.
