WASHINGTON - Comedian and radio talk show host Al Franken has begun calling Democratic members of Congress and prominent DFLers to tell them he will definitely challenge Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in 2008, the Star Tribune has learned.

That guy has so many skeletons in and out of the closet, I'd be VERY surprised if he wins. He'd be a joke too. He's made his living being a joke, there is no way people can seriously let a joke run the country. He won't change just because he has a position of responsibility.

i've listened to his radio show a few times... he knows what he's talking about although i really hate the layout/format of his show. he may not be the traditional politician, but neither is arnold, and look where he got

I think we need the Entertainment!

And I would note that Franken has more than a few skeletons in his closet including a great deal of drug use. If he thinks he will get the kind of media pass he has been getting as the Clown Prince of Liberal Authors think again!

For one thing anytime he is caught distorting the truth in his books that just becomes the "joke" part. Try that when you start opening your mouth durring a campaign?

There's been plenty of entertainment people turned politician to run for office and win.

Unless the Republican party makes an about face and begins regaining ground, I think he has a good shot at winning.

It'll be interesting to watch O'Reilly lose some hair over this though, I know Franken is his arch enemy.

Skeletons in Franken's closet

Probably the only candidate with more "on record" skeletons than any candidate in history! Half of them he talks and writes about openly, the other half are on VIDEO!

I personally cannot WAIT until the opposition starts showing Franken & Davis sketches as attack ads. My favorite is the one where Franken has a brain tumor but wants to go on with the show, and he repeatedly tries to tell a simple joke, but keeps passing out right before he can say the punchline. That will surely enrage health care activists, the terminally ill, and nurses organizations!

Wait until they hear about the SNL sketches that he wrote and could never get past the censors, I bet there are DOZENS! Taken out of context and written up in serious news stories... oh, it would be priceless.

And the story Al told about when Franken and Davis got their first bag of cocaine and Belushi ran into the room and snorted it all up before they could? That's a perfect attack ad: "If Mr. Franken cannot protect a bag of cocaine from John Belushi, how can he protect America from the terrorists?"
