There is debate about whether or not it affects typhoons or hurricanes alike. This is from the wikipedia:

An increase in global temperatures can in turn cause other changes, including a rising sea level and changes in the amount and pattern of precipitation. These changes may increase the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts, heat waves, hurricanes, and tornados. Other consequences include higher or lower agricultural yields, glacier retreat, reduced summer streamflows, species extinctions and increases in the ranges of disease vectors. Warming is expected to affect the number and magnitude of these events; however, it is difficult to connect particular events to global warming.
For me, I don't think it's affecting typhoons at all.

There is no debate. It will cause stronger storms.

You obviously do not use enough of your gut. Put down the books and facts and step away slowly. They are liberal conspiracies.

Like all those horrible hurricanes we had this year? The ones that were predicted due to global warming?

That's STRAIGHT from my gut!

Are you saying there were no bad storms this year? I seem to remember some pretty bad ones in other areas of the world

There have been bad storms all over the earth since the day I was born. And long before then too.

but it changes the weather pattern so there are actually fewer storms, if any.

No doubt ''global warming'' is being effected by man. It is being exacerbated by man. The natural weather systems are bein exacerbated by the crap we have thrown up into the atmosphere over the last 50-100 years. It is not all our fault we just push it along.

The funniest thing i heard was that it will take 15 thousand years to locate and log evey species on the planet - if current levels of expedition is continued. So when we are all gone there will be species that neither knew or cared we were here.. that is uplifting.

Hurricanes/Typhoons etc are affected by many variables. SST's and TCHPs are key ingredients to the storms, however. Warmer water temps raise both values and *can* increase the intensity of storms.

However, global warming has been and probably will continue to be blown way out of proportion. Periods in the 20th century actually cooled, these periods were also periods that saw huge increases in the amount of CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere. How do scientist explain it? "Global Dimming"

Interestingly enough this period of cooler temperatures had some of the strongest storms every recorded as well as 20 years of VERY active tropical cyclone activity.

Typhoon tip was in 78 or 79 cooler than today.

From noaa

The observed global warming of the past century occurred primarily in two distinct 20 year periods, from 1925 to 1944 and from 1978 to the present. While the latter warming is often attributed to a human-induced increase of greenhouse gases, causes of the earlier warming are less clear since this period precedes the time of strongest increases in human-induced greenhouse gas (radiative) forcing. Results from a set of six integrations of a coupled ocean-atmosphere climate model suggest that the warming of the early 20th century could have resulted from a combination of human-induced radiative forcing and an unusually large realization of internal multidecadal variability of the coupled ocean-atmosphere system.

The latest report seems to have gained fairly wide acceptance.

Key climate report sparks global call to action - earth - 02 February 2007 - New Scientist Environment

It basically says global warming is happening and people are to blame (with "very high" confidence).

While I expect that there are still some people who will question the report (and that is a good thing) it represents a great deal of research and study
