That's a big no duh! Unemployments is almost all transitional. This is the same garbage that came out durring the 80's.

It is well known that a large proportion of these people are mentally Ill and drug adicted. I don't want to force people into treatment. But if "we" are responcible for food and shelter I don't see why "we" can't insist on treatment in return? Otherwise it is just an endless cycle of homelessness and dependence.

And the Churches......but they might make you listen to a prayer!

Also they have a lot of time. They can walk South to better climates.

Well, you know how they do. If economic theory doesn't agree with socialist policy, just throw out the name and tagline of a dubious-sounding formula and assume it works!

If you haven't noticed though, neither does whatever is going on here in the US either. Besides, the lack of genuine concern for fellow Americans is ridiculous when you compare it to how much people care for what they HAVE. That has NOTHING to do with government.

Forcing people to give a part of their income to the government, even if that money goes directly to the poor, is not generous or caring, since there is no choice involved. If you want to help others, volunteer or give to charity out of your income. When it is forcibly taken you can not argue altruism.

And as to your point that America's current political system doesn't work, I agree.

And that goes back to the greedy part. If it wasn't forced upon people, nobody would do it. Nobody would lift a finger to help their fellow countrymen. Living in this country is a priviledge...people don't act like it. They are entitled to rape and pillage to get whatever the fuck they want out of it and don't see any reason to give back. Why should they? They got everything they wanted out of it.

Then explain why every year there are more private donations than the previous year.

In 2005 private donations topped $260B. And that's just cash. That doesn't include donated time. It's because people do care. People do want to lift a finger to help their fellow man. People aren't as jaded as you want to believe.

And I am certain if you list exactly WHO donated all that money, most of it would be from a certain % of our population...the same % that has an extraordinary amount of money to begin with. People "give" by doing those things and it's BARE MINIMUM. They know and don't care that doing the BARE MINIMUM doesn't do anything. Whether it's giving away old clothes not good enough for you to wear anymore or $5 to some corrupt charity...it all = nothing in the grande scheme of things. It has nothing to do with being "jaded" it has to do with greed. Plain and simple. People in this country want more and more and more...all of it is garbage and has NOTHING to do with surviving. Multiple cars...multiple homes...multiple TVs and vacations. When you compare what is actually "given" by people and what is gross and ignorant excess garbage...it would give you a better grasp of things.

Gates is worth more and plans to donate 90% of his wealth to charity. But these are extreme examples........... the bulk of the $260B isn't coming from these super-rich, it's coming from everyday people giving checks to charity.

And this is what you "know"? You've compared these things and looked at who's given what? You see people sitting with a check thinking "should I give it to charity or buy that third house?"

It's simple math. Compare what is given to charity to help fellow Americans to the excess and waste. Simple math. Roll your eyes at that.

Hey what would we do if dinosaurs came back and start eating all the homeless people or alligators started showing up in the sewers of New York and eating kids? What if the whole country went into -30 degree weather and Elvis came back? Would he share his Peanut Butter and Banana sandwiches Thorg?

Jeez, I don't know. Why don't we just take money from everyone's paycheck and make them pay for food and shelter for everyone that doesn't want to work along with healthcare? There's an idea.

Why do people take hypothetical problems and then suggest infinitely bigger problems as their solution?
