Radical Right Oliver North: Troops don't support the surge

North: I was there with the same guys who briefed John McCain and Joe Lieberman and they told those two guys the same thing. And they walked out of the briefing and said they wanted 20,000 more troops. Now go figure. And I know that's what was said because I lived with those same guys…

Oliver North questions McCain and Lieberman’s honesty over troop escalation

To have such a far-right figure, who is probably the exact opposite of me politically, and a rather thuggish figure who infers liberals are traitors...for HIM to say all the time he's spent with the troops and then to come on Fox and say they don't support the surge?

Powerful evidence there, you don't see Al Franken saying people he met in Iraq are telling him they support the surge

It's getting pretty one sided in evidence that only a small minority of US forces support the escalation

It matters because until very very recently, military opinion has been very very supportive of anything Bush proposed re: Iraq.

At least you're consistant.

Gotta give you a for that.

I do disagree with you though. I think it is at least relevant for the same reason motivez mentioned.

because it will lend more support for taking specific action. In other words a bill to pull funding after a specific amount of time (such as 6 months) would have a much better chance of passing.

I think it is quite dangerous to say that what people think does not matter. It is really unhealthy for our representative democracy to give the president a free pass simply because he is the commander in chief. I think we have a duty to vocally agree AND disagree with the president.

Actually if you watch the whole video, and not just the cherry picked quote by a very slanted political website, you find that the troops favored more "trainers" for the Iraq Police and Military and the kind of people who would get both Shiite's and Sunni's to work together against Al-Qaeda. They obviously think this is a war that can be won. So if the Democrats want to support what these guys are asking for go ahead and do that. I have not heard a word from Hillary about this? She was just over in Iraq, was she not told the same thing as McCain? All I hear are demands that Bush end the war before she becomes President.

The democrats have been calling for more funds for the ISF as part as the withdraw plan... more funds than currently allocated under the current plan. Hillary and all other prominent democrats have stated this.
